There are a lot of exciting things going on in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences here at MSU. We've managed to assemble a stellar group studying new technology and media, as well as traditional communication processes.
The MINDLab, under the direction of Dr. Frank Biocca, is a world wide network of scholars studying the human implications of new communication technology. They have generously extended the hand of friendship to me and we are revitalizing the MINDGames initiative.
Unlike many 'serious games' projects, the MINDGames initiative uses a careful program of cognitive science research to understand the conditions under which people become enamored of game experiences. Armed with this knowledge, we will make educational games that hold player attention while teaching complex scientific ideas.
