    Software Requests

As of Spring 2004, ICTC will no longer review software requests; requests should be made directly to Academic Computing and Network Services (ACNS), Instructional Computing Facilities, care of Jane Benke, 515 Computer Center. Software requests are accepted year-round.

Software applications available in MSU's computer labs are listed at: http://microlabs.msu.edu/general.html. The software request form is available on the computer labs web site, at: http://www.microlabs.msu.edu/instructinfo.html.

Specific guidelines for preparing the form and more information about how requests are evaluated are included in the software request form. General suggestions that ICTC has regarding software requests include:

    • check the MSU software lists first, before submitting a request to verify that the software is not already available (see http://www.microlabs.msu.edu/general.html for lists of Windows 2000 application software and Macintosh application software)

    • provide as much detail as possible regarding the software, including vendor name, application name, version number, number of copies requested for installation on the network, etc. (see also the request form for details regarding necessary specifics)

    • prepare a detailed pedagogical rationale that supports your request for the software (e.g., how many courses will this software support? How many students and instructors will rely upon this software? How will this software be integrated into individual courses?)

ICTC serves in an advisory role to ACNS regarding software requests. ICTC is also available to consult with interested faculty, departments, and/or colleges regarding software requests and other technology needs. If you would like to inquire about the role of the committee or request the support of the committee regarding software requests, please contact Dànielle Nicole DeVoss (devossda@msu.edu).
