Overview
The LANE Scholars are
a select group of premedical and science undergraduate
students who are from disadvantaged groups in medicine
and who are planning to pursue a medical or health professions
career. LANE Scholars participate in enriched academic
experiences that include service-learning, research,
mentoring, and symposia. LANE Scholars are committed
to the achievement of academic excellence, and the development
of professionalism within the field of medicine and the
health professions.
The LANE Scholars Program provides opportunities for members to attend
colloquia, develop an online portfolio, engage in community – based
activities, research health disparities , and mentoring by medical school
faculty that is designed to provide the motivation and support prior to
their acceptance into medical school or health professions school. |
Eligibility
A
student seeking admission to this program must:
- Be
a member of a group that is disadvantaged in medicine
or from an economic or educationally disadvantaged background;
- Have
completed 28 credits or have attained Sophomore status.
- Have
taken at least six semester hours or nine term credits
in science;
- Have
demonstrated an interest in a medical career.
- Be
a US. Citizen or national of the United States
- Must
be nominated for membership by a faculty member or advisor
- Must
have a G.P.A. of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
