Hello, I teach in the
Center for Integrative Studies in the
College of Social Science at
Michigan State University. I am the Acting Director of the Canadian Studies Center in the
Center for International Studies. This site provides links to course materials and projects I find useful.
-
I teach "ISS 210: Society and the Individual" this fall using Angel, a course management software package Michigan State University has adopted, to facilitate the use of web content to our courses. For those who are secularly inclined or feathers make you sneeze, angelos in Greek means "a messenger." You can visit the MSU Angel but probably not many sites unless you're enrolled in the course.
-
I also teach "ISS 336: Canada: Social Science Perspectives" in the fall semester. I am the faculty advisor for students taking the Specialization in Canadian Studies. Occasionally, I direct Independent Studies in Québec society and literature and would eventually like to develop a course on the literature, cinema and ethnography of Québec.
-
I will be teaching the http://studyabroad.msu.edu/programs/ukarts.html Combined Arts & Humanities and Social Science in London program with Dr. Morgan Sweeney from History during the spring 2005 semester. In 2003, the Canadian Studies Centre and the Office of Study Abroad
developed the first
Freshman Seminar Abroad
taking groups of incoming MSU freshmen to Quebec City for ten days in July and August each year. The
program provides freshmen an engaging learning experience in Canada and introduction to the academic enterprise.
-
My wife, Beth, and I raise English Bulldogs and maintain a site on
Vertex Host
featuring
Pedigrees and Photos of over 600 English Bulldog Champions.
We recently added another Internet service to bulldogger worldwide on the site,
Bulldog Pedigree Search using a
program developed by Jim Tretheway of Alfirin Technologies. The
program builds pedigrees on the fly and allows us to share ainformation on over 44,000 bulldogs
with Bulldog lovers everywhere.
-
We also host and maintain
Bulldog Club of America On-line Resources whichprovides internet access to pedigree information on over 8000 AKC champions bulldogs, their breeders and owners. After being trashed by the Nimba virus two years, the site has now been
rebuilt using Apache, PHP and MySQL to create a fast and more robust environment.
-
Royal Deuxponts Home Page contains information the French Army in the 18th century and its role in the American Revolution.
-
Rochambeau hosts "The French Army in America", an ongoing discussion of the role of the French expeditionary force in the American War of Independence and the life and times of the French and German soldiers who made up this corps under the Command of General Rochambeau. You can subscribe by looking up Rochambeau on Yahoo!Groups
- Michigan State has also added a couple of other very useful web-based tools.
-
MSU Mail enables students and faculty to view their e-mail using a web brouser.
-
Magic is a search engine for MSU Libraries.
- Mapping to AFS Space is a convenient way to store files that can be accessed from any laboratory or classroom computer on the MSU campus. A great way to access PowerPoint presentations without hauling disks around.
-
CLIFMS The Course Load, Instruction, Funding and Modeling System is a dynamic, university-wide, web-based tool for gathering and reporting information.
-
The Office of the Registrar now provides on-line access to Classlist and the Instructor Systems Menu that includes access to a class list with student images and to on-line grade entry.
-
A Quick Guide for Students provides basic information on using Angel. There is also more extensive On Line Documentation for faculty use. The production version of Angel will be in use starting this fall semester 2003.
If you would like, you can drop me a line and say "hi"!
