Professor Giesy was an invited delegate to the "Workshop on Bioindicators and Biomarkers", Organized by Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel (STAP) of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). This meeting was held to discuss methods to assist developing countries for monitoring the environment to meet their obligations under the Stockholm Protocols on Persistent Organic Pollutants. December 10-12, 2003, Tsukuba, Japan. He chaired the session on "Bioindicators for monitoring POPs in developing countries".
