Short Handled Hoe

The hoe blade was made from a piece of raw central Texas chert.  The handle was made from a pecan tree limb.  I tried a long handle, but it was too heavy and hard to use.  I used this model for a while and that is why there is dirt on it.

Top Picture:  Shows the entire hoe.

Left Picture:  Shows the hafting.  I used sinew and hide glue to haft the blade to the handle.

Bottom Picture:  Shows the underside of the blade.  If you look closely at the tip of the blade, you can see a little polish that is characteristic of hoe blades.

Total Blade Length: 19.57 cm (7.70 in); Usable Blade Length: 11.1 cm (4.37 in); Blade Width: 9.5cm (3.74 in).
Handle Length: 32.6 cm (12.83 in); Handle Diameter (Holding Area): 4.0 cm (1.57 in).
