Pronghorn Knife

This knife is very unique.  The blade was made from a piece of heat-treated chert from Fort Hood, Texas.  This piece of chert was spalled (broken out of) from a very large nodule of chert. The lighter color (tan) was near the outside of the nodule, and the darker color (brown) with white spots was from the center of the nodule.  The different colors of the stone have different consistencies, and that made knapping it more difficult. The handle was made from a horn from a pronghorn antelope from the western United States.
Total Length: 33.6 cm (13.23 in).
Blade Length: 17.1 cm (6.73 in); Blade Width: 4.23 cm (1.67 in); Blade Thickness: 0.90 cm (0.35 in).
Handle Length (Total): 16.3 cm (6.42 in); Handle Length (To Prong): 12.4 cm (4.88 in); Handle Width: 4.1 cm (1.61 in); Handle Thickness: 2.45 cm (0.96 in).
