Red Ochre Knife

This knife is one of my favorite pieces.  The blade portion is a replica of a Red Ochre Knife and the handle is of my own design.  As far as I know, no Red Ochre Knives have been found hafted.  The blade is made from a piece of Arkansas novaculite.  This blade has a section that is opaque white and another section that is translucent white with opaque white spots.  The dividing line between these 2 sections runs nearly down the middle of the blade lengthwise (at a slight angle).  The handle was made from a section of moose antler tine.  When the tine was cut, both ends had a small pithy area in the center.  This pithy area was great for inserting the blade, but the other end looked ugly, so I added and end cap.  The end cap was made from a piece of serpentinite that I carved to fit into the pithy area.  The end cap was sanded down to a polish using 600 grit sand paper.
Total Length: 27.8 cm (10.94 in).
Blade Length: 13.3 cm (5.24 in); Blade Width: 6.88 cm (2.71 in); Blade Thickness: 0.93 cm (0.37 in).
Handle Length: 13.6 cm (5.35 in); Handle Width (Middle): 4.3 cm (1.69 in); Handle Thickness: 2.78 cm (1.09 in).
