Obsidian Rattlesnake
This rattlesnake was made from a piece of opaque black obsidian with several patches of mahogany in it.  The body portion of the snake was fairly easy to make, but the head and the tail were difficult.  The fang inside the mouth is basically an expanding notch.  The rattle was very nerve-racking to do because every time I notched the rattle, it made a ringing sound.  This sound is nearly the same sound that is made when a piece of obsidian is broken.  Also I had to hold the rattle between my thumb and first finger to notch it.
Length: 12 cm (4.72 in); Width: 1.15 cm (0.45 in); Thickness: 0.43 cm (0.17 in).
