Landed by Higgins boat on Utah Beach. Involved in fighting near Carentan.
Douve River Crossing, took many casualties from friendly artillery fire
July 1944 Returned to England.
September 21 D+2, 1944
Landed by glider near Son, Holland in Operation Market Garden. Involved
in combat for nearly 70
days. On October 9th, particularly heavy attacks made by the Germans
repulsed by C Company.
November 27, 1944 Relieved and order to camp Mourmelon France.
December 18, 1944 Sent to Belgium in open top trucks.
December 19, 1944
Reached Bastone area and helped set up of defense of town. 1st Battalion
temporarily attached to
501 PIR. Involved in fighting until January 18, 1945.
February 25, 1945 Involved in fighting in Alsace until February 25, 1945. Returned to Camp Mourmelon France.
March 1945 Sent into Germany Ruhr area. Then on to Berchtesgaden.
May 5, 1945 Occupied Berchtesgaden Germany until the end of the war....May 7, 1945
November 1945 Sent back to and deactivated on November 30, 1945
December 1945
