REQUIREMENTS
Chicano/Latino Studies Specialization
The student must complete a total of 20 credits including:
(1) The following introductory courses: (8 credits)
- IAH 211C The Americas: Focus on Chicana/o History, Memory, and Identity
- ISS 335 National Diversity and Change: United States; Focus on Chicano/Latino
(2) Any three of the following courses*: (9 credits)
- ANP 412 Social and Cultural Status of Latinos
- ENG 351 Chicano and Latino Literature
- ENG 353 Women and Literature: Chicana/ Latina Focus
- HST 327 History of Mexican Americans
- HST 383 The Caribbean
- HST 384 Modern Mexico
- HST 385 Modern Spanish Central and South America
- FCE 442 Ethnic Minority Families in America
- SOC 215 Race and Ethnicity
- SPN 412 Topics in Hispanic Culture
- SPN 432 Latin America and its Literature
- SPN 472 Topics on the Literatures of the Americas
(3) One of the following three options: (3 credits; course must be pre-approved)
- A supervised internship relevant to CLS with a public or private agency or organization
- Directed study abroad relevant to CLS
- A research experience relevant to CLS
Recognition: The student's permanent academic record will document the satisfactory completion of the CLS specialization.
*With the approval of the adviser for CLS, another course relevant to CLS may be substituted for one of the approved courses.
