To be selected as a member of the Michigan State Cheerleading Team, individuals must qualify in one of the following categories:
(1) individuals must be accepted to MSU
(2) have attended Michigan State University for at least a semester and have attained a GPA of at least a 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
(3) individuals transferring from another college or university must have proof of acceptance to Michigan State University.
Team Information:
A coed team will be chosen during spring selections and will be comprised of Green and White squads. Numbers for each squad will inevitably vary from year to year ranging from 10 to 20 members per squad. Green Squad will support football and men's basketball while White Squad will support women's volleyball and women's basketball. Members on each squad will be asked to fill in for either squad when necessary. Both squads will represent the university in many exciting athletic, alumni, and distinctive functions as well as UCA Collegiate Cheerleading National Championships depending on funding.
- Ladies are required to furnish their own bloomers and turtleneck, approx. $80.
- Gentlemen are required to furnish color specific t-shirts and uniform top , approx. $70.
General Tryout Information:
You will need to bring proof of medical insurance including the policy number and proof of enrollment to Michigan State for the upcomming fall semester.
Open workouts and formal tryouts will be held at Jenison Fieldhouse gymnastics gym (3rd Floor) unless otherwise noted. These workouts and formal tryouts are for graduating seniors in high school or college-aged students. Ladies attire should consist of snug-fitting tops and shorts. Gentlemen should wear athletic style shorts and appropriate tee shirts. You may be asked to remove or change baggy tee shirts or sloppy athletic shorts for safety reasons. Please take in to consideration the material presented on the shirts as well. Obscenities and derogatory comments are not appropriate.
The proper attire for the final day is the same criteria as above, but green and white attire is strongly recommended. Remember, you will be judged on appearance so consider clothing that is appealing and appropriate to become a member of the MSU Cheerleading Team. Absolutely no jewelry will be allowed.
