"The Second Annual World Languages Day"

AVSS Member Talks about Vietnamese Culture at the World Languages Day. On Saturday, April 22, 2006, at the 2nd Annual World Languages Day, Mr. Huynh Van Hien (M.A. Student in TESOL, a member of the AVSS) will give a talk on "Vietnamese Culture and Holidays": "After a brief introduction to the country, you will learn the different major holidays in Vietnam and how they are celebrated, from the Tet Festival (New Years Day) to special holidays such as Teachers Day, and more!"


"Vietnam in Film: The War and Beyond"



A film series about Vietnam presenting at the Asian Studies Center (MSU) this Spring semester. The AVSS's members will join a post-screening discussion after the film "Vietnam: The Next Generation" being showed (on April 20, 2006). Flyer can be found here


"AVSS Member Gives Presentation on the US-Vietnam Relationship"

On April 14, Ms. Tran Thi Dong-Luu (Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow, a member of the AVSS) will give a presentation on "Vietnam and the United States: Evolution of Bilateral Diplomatic, Trade, and Investment Relationships since 1975". In her presentation, Ms. Dong-Luu will bring updated information about the chronology of US and Vietnam relations since 1975 and the impact of the US-Vietnam Bilateral Trade Agreement on overall and US foreign direct investment in Vietnam. "Contemporary Vietnamese Film: Film Screening and Discussion with Director Dang Nhat Minh"


Born in 1938 in Hue, Dang Nhat Minh started his career in 1965 as a documentary filmmaker. Since then, he has made numerous films set against the backdrop of Vietnam's turbulent history. A writer and a journalist, Dang was also the 10-year General Secretary of the "Vietnam Cinema Association" and is considered one of Vietnam's leading filmmakers. The evening will include a screening of Minh's "Season of Guavas," a tender tale about a Vietnam torn between past and present. For more information on "Season of Guavas": Link
