1890's Parlor Extension Bell Set

1
These extension bell sets were very important in their day.  When the phone rang, it was a rare and special event, as phone calls could be very expensive.  Furthermore, most homes only had one telephone, so multiple bell sets had to be installed to be sure the subscriber heard the phone ring.

I bought this set in rural Missouri in the summer of 2001.  It is circa 1898, oak, with hardware that I had re-nickel plated.  This set is completely rebuilt.  Notice the exposed terminals on the top.  Be sure not to touch those when the phone rings!
