Academic Scholars, Fall 2007:
Who You Are

So here you are at MSU in the Academic Scholars Program.   You may be wondering who else is in the program, either in your own class or in the second-year class, and what they are like.  And they may be wondering about you, too!  Well, here's some general breakdowns of your group, based on information for Fall 2007, followed by a list of all your names and interesting things you've passed along to share with your classmates.  If you see errors in the info below, or address changes that haven't been picked up yet, let Tess know about them <tavrmina@msu.edu> and she'll update the site. Second-year Scholars, feel free to update me on your current interests if you'd like to share them with your fellow Scholars.

For starters, there are 230 of you in the 2007 cohort of Scholars.

Where do you come from?

43 of you are out of state (Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Wyoming, and one of you from Ecuador, with Scholars from Illinois being the largest out-of-state contingent); all the rest of you are currently from Michigan.
Where are you living at MSU?
119 of you live in South Campus (77 in Holden, 23 in Case, 8 in Wonders and 11 in Wilson). 58 of you are in East Campus (38 in Holmes Hall, 7 in Hubbard and 13 in Akers). And 53 are in Brody (23) or West Circle (7) or Central/North Campus (20) dorms or off-campus: 4 in Emmons, 7 in Armstrong, 4 in Bailey, 4 in Bryan, 2 in Butterfield, and 2 in Rather; 1 in Landon, 5 in Yakeley, and 1 in Campbell; 5 in Shaw, 9 in Snyder-Phillips, and 6 in Mason-Abbot; 3 off-campus.
What are your majors?
At the beginning of Fall semester - this is only the starting point of your college careers, of course - 40 of you are in Lyman Briggs; 32 in Natural Science; 27 in Business majors; and another 23 in various Engineering majors. 22 of you are in James Madison, 13 each in Communication Arts and Social Science. 21 of you have majors in the Colleges of Arts & Letters, Music, and the Residential College in Arts & Humanities; 18 are in Education, Agriculture/Natural Resources, and the Pre-Vet and Pre-Nursing programs. And another 21 of you are starting out at MSU as No-Pref.

You are in 50-plus individual majors, running from Animal Science, Accounting, and Jazz Studies, through History, Pre-Med, Anthropology, and Electrical Engineering to Journalism, Psychology, Theatre, Kinesiology, and many more.

If you click on one or the other of the two links below, you'll find an initial listing of your names, local addresses, and things about you that you wrote on the sheets passed around at our Fall Welcome meetings. It looks like some of you didn't get a chance to add your info to one of the name sheets; if that's the case for you, do send Tess anything you'd like to share about yourself with your fellow Academic Scholars.

As you'll see, a lot of you are into a variety of sports, have strong music or dance interests, or have gone or want to go overseas, or love to read.  Hanging out with friends is also a very popular pastime. So take a look at the lists -- who knows, you might find another Scholar to share some extracurricular fun with!
