Students are advised to consult with the Coordinator before enrolling in courses to ensure that they are fulfilling Specialization requirements.

This requirement may be fulfilled by other courses with an Asian Pacific American focus, if approved in advance by the Coordinator of Asian Pacific American studies and the Director.

3. Capstone and Enrichment Courses (1 course, 3-5 credits)

The student must complete at least 3 credits in one of the following:

a. Social Science Internship SSC 493 (or other approved internship) 3 cr

The internship should focus on experiential learning related to the Asian Pacific American community. Any core faculty member affiliated with the Specialization can supervise an internship. In cases where the student has already taken the maximum number of internship credits, the internship may be fulfilled with other coursework with approval from Coordinator.

b. Heritage courses 3 cr

Heritage courses refer to courses focusing on Asian populations in their countries of origin, as opposed to in a U.S. or other diasporic context outside of their homeland. Heritage courses should focus substantially on Asia, with content on Asia comprising at least 75% of the course. The courses listed below represent a partial listing of courses that fulfill the heritage course requirement.
