Senator Mee Moua

The honorable State Senator Mee Moua is the nation’s first Hmong American elected to a state Senator Mee Moualegislature. Senator Moua was first elected to the Minnesota state in a special election in January 2002.Senator Moua chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee and is a member of the Tax Committee, Public Safety Budget Division, and the Transportation Budget and Policy Committee. Senator Moua was invited as a guest lecturer for the Asian Pacific American Studies Program on September 12, 2009 at the MSU Union and as a key note speaker for the Asian Pacific American Leadership Conference on September 13th, 2009 at the Hannah Community Center. Senator Moua was able to share some of her experiences as an Asian American and Hmong American leader and her role as a leader for the community. Senator Moua also spent some time speaking with the local Hmong community leaders at ThaSi Kitchen. She gave a motivational speech to the community on how the Hmong community can become involved and participate in their local governments as well as their importance as American citizens. Even with her busy schedule she was eager to speak with the local Hmong College students to provide motivational insights for them to become successful in their career paths as well as her insight on the growing population of Hmong youths in America.
