Stephanie Nguyen
Spring Semester Intern
Stephanie Nguyen is our new Spring Semester Intern in the Asian Pacific American Studies Program Office. She is graduating Spring 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Retailing, and the Asian Pacific American Specialization. Stephanie’s childhood exposure to culture was split between Vietnamese traditions instilled at home and American culture taught at school. Furthermore, Stephanie discovered that other Asian Americans experienced a similar childhood. Stephanie’s special interest in Asian American studies is rooted in her diverse background. Both of her parents are war refugees that arrived in the United States before Stephanie was even born. She is interested in the studies of ethnic rivalries that exist among Asian Americans, as well as learning more about the enriched cultures of Asia in the United States. In 2008, Stephanie’s paper on Ethnic Rivalries Amongst Asian Americans landed her an opportunity to take part in the research and development of a new IAH 211B: The Asian American Experience course for 2009. She is currently a research assistant for the IAH Department. Stephanie has never been to Vietnam, and would like to visit one day. Her future plans include attending law school, and expanding her online jewelry business, DSK Jewelry (www.DSKJewelry.com).
